Where to donate
UPDATED Oct 2, 2020 - added Wellspring Multi-Service Center info
Looking for places for your still serviceable, but no longer needed items? Here is my list of resources for greater Boston & South Shore. Each charity outlines what they will accept and if the offer pickup versus drop-off services. Note: Please confirm with each charity for any COVID-19 pandemic changes to donation policies or goods accepted.
Charity Donations and Pickups
Wellspring Multi-Service Center (Weymouth NEW! and Hull) - accepts household, kitchen items, clothing, jewelry, book, furniture
Dress for Success Boston - gently worn women's clothing (NOTE: not accepting donations during COVID-19 pandemic)
Interfaith Social Services Career Closet - free professional attire to low-income job seekers
Society of St Vincent de Paul - car donations, thrift stores, drop boxes
Have others to recommend? Let me know!
Other Options
There are also “for profit” donation centers and drop-boxes such as Savers or Planet Aid. These companies may or may not help local charities - I recommend you check them out first.
If you want your donations to help people locally, you can also contact any local shelters for the homeless or for victims of domestic violence to see what they need.
Linens
Do you have a stash of old towels? Contact your local animal shelter. Animal shelters, doggy daycare/hotels and animal clinics are always looking for towels and sometimes will accept sheets or blankets to use for rags.
